Egypt has condemned the terrorist attack by an explosive-laden boat that targeted an oil tanker anchored at Jeddah Port, according to the Foreign Ministry in a statement on Monday.

Egypt strongly refuses any terror attacks that target the regional waters and vital facilities of Saudi Arabia, a matter which threatens the Kingdom's stability and security as well as the freedom of navigation, the statement read.

"Cairo anew stressed its support to measures taken by Riyadh to defend its lands and sovereignty to deter terrorism," it added.

Earlier today, a ship designated for transporting fuel was subject to a terrorist attack by an explosive-laden boat  while it was anchored in the fuel dump in Jeddah, according to a an official source at the Saudi  Ministry of Energy.

“The firefighting and safety units managed to extinguish the limited fire. There were no injuries or loss of life in the accident, and no damage was reported to the fuel unloading facilities or any impact on its supplies,” SPA quoted the source as saying.

"These terrorist acts of sabotage, directed against the vital installations go beyond targeting the Kingdom, and its vital facilities, to targeting the security and stability of energy supplies to the world and the global economy," the source added.
