Egypt is taking part with a high-level delegation in the "International Atomic Energy Week" in Moscow, organized by Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom, which is overseeing the construction of Egypt’s El-Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant.

The forum, which opened on Thursday, brings together participants from around the world for discussions, workshops, and specialized sessions on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.

Heading the Egyptian delegation is Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, who is scheduled to attend a series of key events, including the ceremony marking the transfer of the first nuclear reactor from St. Petersburg to the El-Dabaa site. The plant is expected to begin operations in 2027.

The minister will also join panel discussions and oversee the signing of cooperation agreements with several Russian institutions working in the nuclear energy sector. Abdel Razek described the forum as “the most important and largest international platform to discuss peaceful applications of atomic energy.”

Egypt’s participation also extends to the scientific and medical fields. Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Chairman of Egypt’s Healthcare Authority, is set to deliver a keynote address during a session on nuclear medicine, highlighting the role of nuclear energy in advancing medical applications.

In addition, the correspondent noted that over 1,700 Egyptian trainees are currently in Moscow undergoing intensive programs at Rosatom’s educational academy. These “future employees” of the El-Dabaa plant are receiving not only technical instruction but also language and cultural training before beginning hands-on work with nuclear reactors.

The wide-ranging Egyptian presence underscores Cairo’s commitment to developing nuclear energy for peaceful purposes while deepening strategic cooperation with Russia in the sector.
