Egypt, Seychelles Discuss Enhancing Bilateral Co-op, Maritime Security

Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates, received on Wednesday, Barry Faure, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Seychelles.

At the outset of the meeting, Abdelatty congratulated his Seychellois counterpart on assuming his post, expressing Egypt's pride in the distinguished bilateral relations between the two brotherly nations.

He emphasized Egypt's commitment to further strengthening cooperation and coordination across various political and developmental fields on bilateral, regional, and multilateral levels.

​Moreover, Abdelatty underscored the importance of elevating economic, trade, and investment cooperation, particularly in tourism, renewable energy, the environment, and maritime security. 

He also highlighted the need to capitalize on the opportunities provided by both countries' membership in COMESA. 

Furthermore, FM pointed out the competitive advantage of Egyptian pharmaceuticals in Africa, expressing his aspiration to cooperate with the Seychellois side to facilitate the access of Egyptian medicines to Seychelles and meet its health sector needs.

He also encouraged Egyptian investments in tourism, including the construction and management of resorts, and increasing the export of Egyptian hotel equipment.

​Abdelatty also stressed the importance of boosting cooperation in training and capacity building, utilizing programs organized by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD), especially in priority areas for Seychelles. 

Additionally, he emphasized strengthening security cooperation, particularly in the Indian Ocean and Red Sea regions, to address maritime challenges, secure shipping lanes, protect coasts, and combat piracy.

​In conclusion, both ministers exchanged views on supporting peace and security and achieving comprehensive development in Africa. 

They agreed to maintain coordination and consultation within bilateral and multilateral frameworks, notably the African Union, and to continue exchanging support for nominations in various international forums.
