Egypt's Embassy in Lebanon announced the response of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to the request of Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati for Egyptian support to confront the cholera epidemic during their meeting at the Arab Summit in Algeria.

In a statement today, Monday, the embassy said "an Egyptian military plane arrives in Beirut on Wednesday morning, carrying a shipment of 17 tons of cholera medicines and vaccines."

According to the Lebanese National News Agency, the Egyptian embassy explained that this comes less than a week after Mikati asked Sisi for Egyptian support to confront the cholera epidemic during their meeting at the summit.

"This shipment represents a new confirmation of the Egyptian commitment to stand by the brotherly Lebanese people, in support of Lebanon in facing the outbreak of the cholera epidemic, and it is the latest episode of the Egyptian air and sea bridge, which began since the explosion of the port of Beirut," Yasser Alawi, the Egyptian ambassador to Lebanon said.

He added that his country knows Lebanon's destiny and realizes the importance of providing all means of support to it to recover and restore its vital and historical role as one of the centers of civilizational radiation in the Arab world.

"Egypt is always on the covenant, stands shoulder to shoulder with the Lebanese people, and will not allow Lebanon, dear to our hearts, to be left alone in the face of any crisis," according to Alawi.
