Egypt’s tourism sector maintained strong growth momentum during the first four months of 2026, with tourist arrivals increasing by seven percent year-on-year to reach 6.1 million visitors, according to government figures released on Thursday.

The Egyptian cabinet said the country welcomed 6.1 million tourists between January and April 2026, compared with 5.7 million visitors during the same period in 2025, reflecting continued recovery and expansion in one of Egypt’s key economic sectors.

The latest figures come after Egypt recorded a 20.5 percent increase in tourist arrivals in 2025 compared with the previous year, signaling sustained growth driven by diversified tourism offerings and intensified international promotion campaigns.

In a statement, the cabinet said Egypt currently receives tourists from 179 countries and is implementing customized promotional strategies targeting different international markets as part of a broader plan to attract 30 million tourists annually by 2030.

The government also highlighted positive international coverage of Egypt’s tourism industry, noting that Britain’s The Times recently described the country as an exceptional and affordable tourist destination distinguished by the friendliness and hospitality of its people.

According to the newspaper, few countries have matched Egypt’s tourism momentum in recent years, adding that the country has consistently ranked among the top-selling destinations through the London-based Advantage Travel Partnership, which represents independent travel agencies.

The report further noted that annual surveys conducted by Post Office Travel Money have repeatedly ranked Egypt’s Red Sea resorts among destinations offering excellent value for money to travelers.

The Times also pointed to Cairo as a major draw for international visitors, particularly following the official opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum in November 2025. The landmark museum showcases more than 7,000 years of Egyptian history and is expected to further strengthen Egypt’s appeal as a global cultural tourism destination.

Tourism remains a vital source of foreign currency revenues for Egypt, with authorities continuing efforts to expand infrastructure, improve visitor experiences, and promote both traditional and emerging tourist destinations across the country.
