Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, received on Wednesday his South Sudanese counterpart, Ramadan Mohamed Abdallah Gany (Mandy Syemaya Komba), the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of South Sudan.
The meeting focused on bilateral relations and ways to enhance ongoing cooperation between the two brotherly nations.
Moreover, both ministers emphasized the importance of building upon the outcomes of the South Sudanese Foreign Minister's visit to Cairo in December 2025, as well as their meeting on the sidelines of the African Union Summit in Addis Ababa.
Furthermore, they highlighted that such interactions are vital for advancing joint cooperation frameworks and accelerating the pace of coordination and consultation. Minister Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt's full support for efforts to achieve security and stability in South Sudan, reflecting the deep-rooted ties and the shared interests of both peoples.
Regarding the Nile River file, FM stressed the significance of fostering cooperation and achieving mutual benefits among Nile Basin countries in accordance with international law. He specifically underscored the principles of prior notification, consultation, no-harm, and the rejection of unilateral measures.
Furthermore, Abdelatty affirmed Egypt's support for the Nile Basin Initiative and the ongoing consultative process aimed at restoring its inclusivity.
He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to continued coordination with South Sudan to enhance prospects for consensus, ensure the river's sustainability, protect its environment, and maximize its resources as a source of cooperation and joint development for all Nile Basin states.
