Egypt, Russia Foster Agricultural Coop, Trade Exchange

The Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation held a virtual meeting to discuss agricultural cooperation, and trade exchange between Egypt and the Russia.

The meeting came after the directives of the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Al-Sayed el-Quseir to follow up and evaluate the agricultural exports with various countries and the Russian side in particular, to help remove any barriers to the flow of Egyptian agricultural exports and increase the volume of agricultural trade exchange between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by Saad Moussa, Supervisor of Agricultural Relations, Ahmed Abdel Karim, Head of the Central Department of Veterinary Quarantine, Ahmed Al-Attar, Head of the Central Administration for Plant Quarantine, and Sergei Dankvert, Head of the Federal Agency for Veterinary and Phytosanitary quarantine and plant protection and his work team the Russian side, in coordination with Nasr Hamid, Head of the Commercial Representation Office in Moscow.

During the meeting, issues related to the export of meat, dairy products and agricultural products were discussed, the most important of which is the export of Egyptian potatoes, which amounted to about 200,000 tons since the beginning of 2020, despite the corona pandemic.

Moreover, Russia decided to register a number of Egyptian companies specialized in exporting cheese. The Russian side also requested Egypt to continue adopting halal slaughterhouses in Russia in light of the corona crisis.

Dankvert praised Egyptian agricultural and dairy products, stressing that there are 14 Egyptian companies exporting dairy products to Russia, noting that it is the largest number of foreign companies registered with Russia in this regard.

The meeting ended with both sides agreeing to continue adopting the halal slaughterhouses in Russia in light of the pandemic and the approval of registering an additional number of Egyptian companies in Russia.

The two sides also agreed to continue removing any obstacles or barriers that might hinder exports between Egypt and Russia.
