Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Wednesday, March 11, with Sergey Lavrov, Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, as part of ongoing consultations and coordination between the two countries on rapidly evolving regional developments.

According to Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khallaf, the call focused on escalating tensions in the Middle East and international efforts aimed at reducing tensions and preventing further instability.

Abdelatty warned of the serious consequences of the continued cycle of violence and the widening scope of conflict in the Middle East, stressing that the persistence of military escalation threatens both regional and international peace and security.

Egypt Calls for De-Escalation and Diplomatic Solutions

During the conversation, the Egyptian foreign minister stressed the importance of intensifying regional and international coordination to contain the conflict and prevent the region from sliding into deeper instability.

He underlined the need to prioritize de-escalation, diplomacy, and dialogue, urging immediate action to prevent the Middle East from moving toward wider confrontations that could have severe repercussions for the stability of the entire region.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s long-standing position that political solutions and diplomatic negotiations remain the most effective path for resolving regional conflicts and avoiding further escalation.

The two ministers also discussed the draft resolution currently under discussion at the United Nations Security Council, which addresses the rapidly developing situation in the region.

Discussion on the Ukraine Crisis

The call also touched on the ongoing Ukraine crisis, with Abdelatty reiterating Egypt’s consistent stance in favor of continued political efforts aimed at reaching peaceful settlements through dialogue and diplomatic channels.

Egypt maintains that diplomatic engagement remains essential to preserving regional and global stability while reducing the humanitarian and economic impacts of prolonged conflicts.

Continued Coordination Between Egypt and Russia

At the end of the call, both ministers agreed on the importance of maintaining ongoing consultations and coordination between Egypt and Russia in the coming period.

Such coordination, they noted, could help support international efforts aimed at de-escalation and strengthening regional and global security and stability.
