Egypt, Russia Discuss Establishing Logistics Center for Grains

Ahmed Samir, Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry discussed with Oksana Lut, Russian Minister of Agriculture, ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries in the field of agriculture, on the sidelines of the Minister’s participation in the activities of the 27th session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

Samir said in a statement carried by the Ministry of Trade and Industry on Friday that the meeting reviewed the position of trade exchange between Egypt and Russia, especially since more than 70 percent of Egyptian exports to Russia are agricultural products, in addition to the fact that Egypt is one of the largest importers of Russian grains. According to a press release issued.

He pointed out that the meeting discussed the proposal for Russia's participation in establishing a logistics center for grains and related industries in Egypt.

He pointed out that the meeting stressed the importance of continuing bilateral coordination between the two countries on agricultural and veterinary quarantine issues with the aim of developing trade relations between the two countries, pointing out that the two sides praised the growth of the volume of trade exchange between the two countries in agricultural commodities by 6 percent.

Samir added that the two sides agreed on a road map until 2030 to familiarize the Russian side with the strategic goods that Egypt will need in the future so that the Russian side can develop a long-term plan for seasonal goods that will be in high demand in the Egyptian market, pointing out that the Egyptian and Russian sides confirmed that each of them is looking into To the other, it is a strategic partner in the field of agricultural commodity exchange.

For her part, Russian Minister of Agriculture Oksana Lot stressed her country's keenness to build bridges of economic cooperation with Egypt, especially in the agricultural field, noting the importance of activating joint efforts to open new horizons to increase agricultural exports between the two countries.

The two sides agreed to facilitate the procedures for the entry of Egyptian exports of feed, dairy products and fish into the Russian market, as well as the export of some Russian veterinary products to Egypt, in addition to agreeing on the importance of joint cooperation to increase trade exchange between the two countries of agricultural and veterinary products, which account for the largest portion in trade volume between Egypt and the Russian Federation.
