Egypt is reinforcing oversight of its subsidy system and reviewing strategic commodity reserves to ensure supplies and support for vulnerable groups, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said on Monday.
According to Cabinet spokesman Mohamed El-Hommosany, Madbouly affairmed the need for close coordination among state agencies to safeguard essential goods, citing ongoing regional instability and global supply chain disruptions.
This came during a high-level meeting attended by ministers and senior officials like Finance Minister Ahmed Kouchouk and Supply Minister Sherif Farouk.
He said precautionary measures taken by the government had secured sufficient reserves of key commodities for several months, describing the current stockpile as “reassuring”.
Madbouly said global crises had forced countries to rationalise spending, adding that Egypt was strengthening governance mechanisms to ensure subsidies reach eligible beneficiaries and support social protection efforts.
Farouk said essential goods were available in adequate quantities and at stable prices, attributing this to coordinated action across government bodies.
He further noted that market monitoring was being intensified to curb price manipulation, in line with directives from President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
El-Hommosany said the meeting also reviewed steps to improve the efficiency of subsidy distribution and ensure assistance reaches those most in need.
