Borg El Arab International Airport will officially be renamed Alexandria International Airport, starting September 4, 2025, according to a formal announcement from Egypt’s Central Administration for Tourism Companies.

The announcement, circulated through a letter by Osama Emara, Executive Director of the Chamber of Travel and Tourism Companies, was shared with licensed travel agencies and tour operators across the country.

The rebranding follows the completion of Terminal 2 at the airport, a key infrastructure project designed to accommodate growing passenger traffic and bolster tourism in the Mediterranean city.

The name change has been formally recognized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). An official Notice to Airmen (NOTAM A0289/25) confirms that the airport’s name is now Alexandria International Airport, and the ICAO airport code will change from HEBA to HEAX as of September 4, 2025.

“The name change is symbolic but strategic. Alexandria is a globally recognized city with deep historical, cultural, and economic significance. Renaming the airport enhances clarity for travelers and promotes the city as a standalone international destination,” said a source within Egypt’s tourism sector.
