Egypt’s Ministry of Interior announced the release of 1,834 inmates from correctional and rehabilitation centres under presidential pardon on the anniversary of the 30 June Revolution 2026.
The ministry said the move comes as part of its commitment to applying modern penal policy, with expanded pardons forming one of its main tools.
The Community Protection Sector released the inmates in implementation of Presidential Decree No. 269 of 2026, which grants a pardon for the remaining prison terms of some convicted inmates on the occasion of the national anniversary.
The released inmates had their files reviewed by specialised committees within the Community Protection Sector to ensure they met the required legal conditions.
The ministry said the inmates had also completed rehabilitation and reform programmes carried out inside correctional centres under modern systems based on humanitarian standards.
Scenes of joy were seen outside correctional and rehabilitation centres as families welcomed their released relatives and thanked the presidential pardon decision for allowing them to return home.
The ministry said national and religious occasions offer eligible inmates an opportunity to begin a new life after completing rehabilitation programmes designed to support their reintegration into society.
