Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty reaffirmed the importance of Red Sea security and the necessity of ensuring freedom of navigation in the region.
During a joint press conference with his Somali counterpart, Ambassador Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, Abdel-Aty emphasized Egypt’s firm rejection of any military presence by non-littoral states in the Red Sea.
He stated that such a presence poses a threat to regional security and reiterated Egypt’s commitment to protecting its national interests and ensuring stability in the area.
Regarding the situation in Gaza, the Egyptian Foreign Minister outlined Cairo’s clear vision for dealing with the crisis. He stressed that Egypt is working on practical solutions for the reconstruction of Gaza, ensuring that no Palestinian is forced to leave their land.
He also highlighted Egypt’s efforts in providing humanitarian aid and preparing plans for the next phase to support stability in the region.
Abdel-Aty pointed out that Egypt, in cooperation with Qatar and the United States, successfully brokered a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, which significantly contributed to de-escalating tensions.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to implement all commitments under the ceasefire agreement, which includes three defined phases aimed at securing long-term stability and facilitating reconstruction.
The minister further emphasized that there is no justification for escalation in the Red Sea, especially after diplomatic efforts have helped reduce tensions. He reiterated Egypt’s dedication to maintaining regional security and supporting peaceful solutions to ensure long-term stability.
