Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty expressed Egypt's rejection of the Yemeni crisis being an entry point for non-Red Sea countries to engage in its security arrangements, explaining the direct link between Red Sea security and stability in the Horn of Africa region.
This came during the meeting held by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Friday with the US envoy to Yemen Tim Lenderking in Washington.
The official spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Tamim Khalaf explained that the Minister affirmed - during the meeting - Egypt's support for all efforts aimed at reaching a comprehensive political solution to the Yemeni crisis, in accordance with the Gulf Initiative and its executive mechanisms, the outcomes of the Comprehensive National Dialogue Conference, and Security Council Resolution 2216, in a manner that meets the aspirations of the Yemeni people and ends their humanitarian suffering.
He also stressed Egypt's steadfast support for the unity, independence, and territorial integrity of the Yemeni state, as well as Egypt's support for legitimacy in Yemen and the independence of state institutions.
He noted that the security and stability of Yemen, as well as the Red Sea file and the safety of maritime navigation in it, represent a high priority for Egyptian national security and the security of the Arab region and the Red Sea region.
He explained the importance of the international community playing its role in reducing the aggravation of the humanitarian crisis suffered by the Yemeni people, and providing the necessary support to finance the United Nations relief programs in Yemen, pointing to Egypt's support for the relevant international efforts.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs noted the Egyptian efforts to provide various forms of support to the Yemeni people, especially in the field of providing medical and food aid.
