The Sudanese Foreign Minister Mariam Al-Sadiq Al-Mahdi said that Egypt announced that it will not accept a two-phase interim agreement on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

In an interview with Al-Hadath TV channel, Al-Mahdi added that Ethiopia is seeking to create a problem with the Arab region because of the Renaissance Dam, and has tried to distort the statement of the League of Arab States regarding the dam.

She added: "We called on the UN Security Council to move and prevent the second filling of the dam without a comprehensive agreement. We expect a Security Council resolution regarding the consensus on the dam."

She pointed out that Sudan and Egypt's positions are identical regarding GERD's second filling, adding that 'Ethiopia insists on the second filling without an agreement... and we demand the imposition of international sanctions on those who do not adhere to the negotiations of the dam."

The Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs added that the second filling of the Renaissance Dam affects the interests of Sudan and Egypt, and continued: "The management of the Renaissance Dam by a joint agreement will not harm any party in the region. The first filling harmed our interests severely, and Ethiopia previously refused Give us information about the Dam."

She stressed that Sudan explained to the Security Council Ethiopia's intransigence and damage to the foundations of good neighborliness, and demanded that Ethiopia be obligated to the foundations of international law.

She continued, "The Ethiopian side seeks to procrastinate and mislead media. Ethiopia is suffering from cracks and a serious internal crisis, and we hope for its stability."
