Cairo, Egypt - Ahmed Issa, the Minister of Tourism, recently announced a significant boost in Egypt's tourism sector, with the country recording 3.6 million tourists in the last quarter of 2023.
This achievement is considered the second-highest in Egypt's history for tourist arrivals.
During a general session of the Senate chaired by Counselor Abdel Wahab Abdel Razek, the focus was on discussing requests for clarification on the government's policy regarding sustainable tourism development.
The primary aim is to balance economic development while preserving the environment and cultural heritage. The discussion also covered ways to enhance Egypt's appeal to tourists and promote domestic tourism through effective marketing strategies.
Despite regional challenges, particularly those that arose on October 7, 2023, which significantly impacted tourism rates in several countries, Egypt saw an 8% increase in tourism rates in Q4 2023.
Other countries in the region experienced a tourism decrease of about 50% during the same period.
Minister Issa attributed this success to Egypt's practical and straightforward tourism policies, which have been effectively implemented in cooperation with tour organizers, especially during periods of reduced demand.
This strategy has not only contributed to the increase in tourism rates but has also played a crucial role in the economic and social benefits to the state.
The substantial increase in tourist arrivals to Egypt in the last quarter of 2023 marks a positive turnaround in the region's tourism sector, showcasing the country's resilience and attractiveness as a top travel destination.
