Egypt received 800,000 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine provided by the Portuguese government, authorities revealed on Friday.
Egypt’s Ambassador to Portugal Wael El Naggar said Portugal had provided to Egypt so far nearly one million and 200 thousand doses of vaccine.
Portugal had sent 360,000 doses in mid-December as part of the global access system for covid vaccines COVAX. This comes within the framework of the European Union's civil protection mechanism, in light of national efforts to cooperate with all countries in order to provide the necessary vaccines to fight the Coronavirus pandemic.
On Thursday, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and Acting Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, announced that Egypt had received one million doses of AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine from Argentina on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of Egyptian-Argentinean relations.
Abdel Ghaffar pointed out that the shipment will be subject to analyzes in the laboratories of the Egyptian Drug Authority before distributing it to vaccination centers nationwide.
The Ministry of Health and Population called on citizens to register on the ministry’s website https://egcovac.mohp.gov.eg/#/registration to receive the vaccine, stressing that the state spares no effort in providing vaccines to citizens for free, through permanent cooperation with international organizations and bodies.
