Egypt Reaffirms Support for Lebanon, Calls for Full Israeli Withdrawal

Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Badr Abdelatty, reaffirmed Cairo's full solidarity with Lebanon amid the country's current challenges during a phone call with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Sunday.

According to a statement issued by Egypt's Foreign Ministry, the two officials discussed the latest developments in Lebanon and regional efforts to address ongoing tensions.

Abdelatty underscored Egypt's longstanding position calling for the complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from all Lebanese territories. He stressed that any violation of Lebanon's sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity constitutes a clear breach of international law and United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.

The Egyptian foreign minister also emphasized the importance of supporting Lebanon's state institutions, particularly the Lebanese Armed Forces, to enable them to fulfill their responsibilities in extending state authority and sovereignty across the country's entire territory.

Abdelatty further stressed the need for the state's exclusive control over weapons, describing it as a fundamental pillar for preserving Lebanon's security and stability, strengthening state institutions, and safeguarding the interests of the Lebanese people.

The call came as Lebanon continues to face heightened security tensions. Since March 2, the country has witnessed an escalation in Israeli military operations and intensive airstrikes targeting various regions, resulting in numerous casualties and widespread destruction of residential buildings and infrastructure.

Egypt has repeatedly voiced support for Lebanon's sovereignty and stability while calling for diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation in the region.
