Egypt's Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said Egypt's foreign policy is founded on respect for international law, support for regional stability, sustainable development, the peaceful resolution of conflicts, and respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states.

Speaking on the sidelines of the 2026 Korea-Africa Foreign Ministers' Meeting in Seoul, Abdelatty outlined Egypt's positions on key regional issues and highlighted Cairo's diplomatic efforts to promote stability across the Middle East and Africa.

The minister reviewed developments related to the ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations, emphasizing Egypt's efforts, in coordination with regional and international partners, to help ease tensions and support an agreement that addresses the concerns of all parties.

Abdelatty also discussed the situations in Gaza, Sudan and Lebanon, as well as issues related to Egypt's water security, the Horn of Africa and security in the Red Sea region.

He stressed that water security remains an existential issue for Egypt, reaffirming Cairo's commitment to safeguarding its water interests while pursuing diplomatic solutions to regional disputes.

The meetings and a lecture delivered by Abdelatty took place during the Korea-Africa Foreign Ministers' Meeting, which brought together representatives from more than 50 African countries and major continental institutions, including the African Union, African Development Bank, the AfCFTA Secretariat and the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention.

During his visit, Abdelatty also held talks with several African foreign ministers and met with Seo Jung-hwa, executive director and head of the operations group at the Economic Development Cooperation Fund (EDCF).

The discussions focused on expanding South Korean financing for development projects in Egypt, particularly in the fields of digital transformation, artificial intelligence, industrial localization and sustainable infrastructure.

The talks reflected growing economic cooperation between Egypt and South Korea and efforts to mobilize financing for projects aimed at supporting long-term development and technological modernization.
