Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration Dr. Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s unwavering commitment under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to collaborate closely with the African Union Commission and relevant stakeholders in implementing the AU’s revised pillars for post-conflict reconstruction and development (PCRD).
The statement was delivered during the launch of the fourth edition of the "Awareness Week on Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development," a key initiative championed by President El-Sisi and currently taking place in Addis Ababa.
Dr. Abdelatty emphasized the timeliness of this year’s event, as Africa faces mounting security and developmental challenges. He highlighted President El-Sisi’s vision of addressing these challenges urgently and comprehensively, focusing on the root causes of conflicts while strengthening the resilience of national, regional, and continental institutions to tackle complex internal and external threats.
Egypt has played a significant role in advancing this vision by hosting the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development. The forum underscores the importance of national ownership, African solidarity, and the interconnected relationship between peace, security, and development.
Egypt has also actively supported the AU’s adoption of the revised PCRD policy in February 2024, aligning with the country’s commitment to fostering sustainable solutions for post-conflict recovery. The policy aims to enhance awareness, engage African states, partners, and civil society, and promote a coordinated approach to achieving long-term stability.
Dr. Abdelatty noted that Egypt has strengthened its cooperation with the African Union Commission by hosting the African Union Centre for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development, which operates from Cairo. The center serves as a hub for promoting the AU’s reconstruction policy, facilitating knowledge exchange, and expediting its implementation across the continent.
The minister concluded by urging Africa’s partners to participate actively in the fourth Awareness Week, fulfill their commitments to post-conflict reconstruction, and align their efforts with ongoing national, regional, and continental initiatives.
