In a coordinated humanitarian effort, the Egyptian National Railways has operated a dedicated train service to transport hundreds of Sudanese families from Ramses Railway Station in Cairo to Aswan, as part of an ongoing “Voluntary Return” initiative aimed at supporting their journey back to Sudan.
The specially designated train, numbered 1940, departed earlier today carrying families who have been residing in Egypt amid ongoing challenges in their home country. The initiative reflects Egypt’s broader role in providing assistance to Sudanese nationals during a prolonged period of instability.
A formal send-off ceremony took place at the station, attended by Imad El-Din Adawi, Sudan’s ambassador to Egypt. In his remarks, the ambassador expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s continued support, highlighting the leadership of Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in extending humanitarian assistance to the Sudanese people.
He also praised the efforts of Egypt’s Ministry of Transport and railway authorities for organizing the operation, emphasizing the logistical coordination and commitment demonstrated by staff to ensure a smooth and dignified journey for the passengers.
According to officials, the train is scheduled to arrive at Aswan High Dam Station at approximately 11:40 p.m. local time. A return service, train number 1945, is set to depart from Aswan at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow, maintaining regular passenger services along the route.
