Egypt Post Partakes in Universal Postal Union Extraordinary Congress

Egypt Post participates in the 4th Extraordinary Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) and the Strategic Summit organized by the Union during the period from 1 to 5 October 2023 in Riyadh - Kingdom of Saudi Arabia - with the participation of more than 130 countries.

Sherif Farouk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Egyptian Post, said: “This edition of the extraordinary conference will address a large number of important topics related to the global postal sector, most important of which is formulating a better future for the Union in light of the global changes in the systems of correspondence and transportation of items through agreement on appropriate mechanisms and controls.” To open the doors of the Universal Postal Union to players in the wide postal sector through several work paths

The work paths include developing the institutional framework, modernizing products and services, developing the performance of the Advisory Committee, and achieving the maximum possible benefit from these parties joining the Universal Postal Union - especially with regard to exchanging experiences and knowledge - in addition to discussing frameworks for future postal financial services and the proposed amendments to the postal payment services agreement."

He pointed out that the forum sessions will include discussing climate-related measures in the postal sector and working for climate by setting a number of voluntary goals related to reducing emissions and achieving climate ambitions for the remainder of the current session until 2025 in the context of the important role that postal administrations play in reducing emissions and reducing the carbon footprint. Promoting sustainable development at all levels

The forum will also discuss the Union’s expenditures for the years 2024 and 2025 and approve the necessary amendments to it to ensure that it carries out its tasks in light of this critical period, taking into account the interests of all developing and least developed countries.

Farouk also participates in the Strategic Summit of the Universal Postal Union under the title “People - Goal - Progress - The Future of the Postal Sector” in the presence of Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser, Minister of Transport and Logistics in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the participation of a large number of ministers of communications and information technology, and heads of postal authorities.

In addition to the multidimensional change session, which includes discussing development, diversity and dynamism for a sustainable postal sector; The outcomes of this forum will be used as evidence in formulating Dubai Postal Strategy for the next session 2025-2029.

He stressed the importance of holding this forum in light of the current major changes that require all officials in the postal sector to take urgent measures that support the survival of the postal sector within the competition in light of the challenges it faces by exchanging experiences between member states, entering into new partnerships, and developing services that meet Customer needs and aspirations, focusing on sustainable development, preserving the environment, expanding the use of modern technology and benefiting from big data and the blockchain.
