Egypt Plans to Produce Locally Anti-COVID-19 Vaccine for Children

The Egyptian Ministry of Health is negotiating now with  AstraZeneca, a United Kingdom drug maker, to produce the company’s anti-corona vaccine in Egypt according to Dr. Heba Wali, Chairwoman of the Egyptian Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA).

The anti-COVID-19 vaccine will be produced in VACSERA’s factory in the 6th of October City.

The Ministry of Health says the factory will be the biggest in the Middle East and Africa.

Egypt seeks to achieve self-sufficiency of  Sinopharm, an anti-corona vaccine produced in China, early in the next year.

Wali added that Egypt will be able to produce 100% of the ingredients of the Chinese vaccine by the first quarter of 2022.

It is worth noting that Egypt is currently importing new components of the vaccine from China.

Egypt has an inventory that suffices to produce 10 million doses.

China will send other quantities of the components that suffice to produce 7.5 million doses over the next period.

Egypt has produced one million doses of the Chinese vaccine and plans to produce 80 million doses by the end of 2021.

On the other hand, Minapharm, an Egyptian pharmaceutical company,  also plans to produce locally  40 million doses of Sputnik V, A Russian anti-corona vaccine to be on the local market in the third quarter of 2021.

Egypt’s Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly had said that Egypt plans to produce locally anti-corona vaccines for children over the next period.
