The Foreign Ministry hosted the sixth round of political consultations between Egypt and Peru at the level of assistant foreign ministers.

The Egyptian side was headed by Assistant Foreign Minister for the Americas Ambassador Khaled Azmy, while the Peruvian side was led by Secretary-General of the Peruvian Foreign Ministry Ambassador Eric Anderson Machado.

The meeting comes within the framework of both sides’ keenness to maintain coordination and strengthen bilateral ties with Latin American countries across various fields.

The consultations addressed ways to boost bilateral ties, particularly in the economic, trade and investment domains, with a focus on increasing Egyptian exports with competitive advantages to the Peruvian market, especially in the areas of pharmaceuticals, agricultural, construction materials and fertilizers.

The two sides also discussed means of enhancing mutual coordination in supporting international nominations in various forums.

The talks reviewed available investment opportunities in both countries and followed up on the expansion of existing Peruvian investments in Egypt, in addition to exploring ways to increase the participation of Egyptian contracting companies in infrastructure projects in Peru.

They also explored the existing legal framework and draft agreements and memoranda of understanding currently under negotiation, in preparation for finalizing and signing them before the end of the year.

On the political level, the Egyptian side outlined the features of its policy of strategic balance, highlighting the determinants of Egypt’s positions on a number of regional and international issues, including developments in the Middle East and Egypt’s efforts to de-escalate tensions and achieve calm, while emphasizing the priority of peaceful solutions and political settlements.

The consultations also touched on the situation in the Gaza Strip and Egypt’s efforts to support peace, reaffirming commitment to the two-state solution, as well as the efforts to reach a ceasefire in Lebanon, preserve its sovereignty and support state institutions.

At the conclusion of the talks, both sides agreed to hold virtual meetings between relevant entities in the coming period to explore cooperation opportunities in agriculture, mining and other economic, trade and investment sectors, in a way that would elevate bilateral relations to broader horizons.
