Egypt has opened applications for the fourth phase of its National Initiative for Smart Green Projects, a government program aimed at promoting innovative, environmentally sustainable solutions across the country’s governorates.
In a statement, Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad said the new phase builds on previous successes and reflects the state’s continued commitment to advancing climate action and sustainable development at the local level.
The initiative serves as a national platform to support projects that improve quality of life while addressing environmental challenges, with a focus on fostering innovation and expanding the green economy.
Awad said the program targets a wide range of participants through six categories: large-scale projects, medium-sized projects, small local initiatives, startups, women-led projects focused on climate and sustainability, and non-profit community-based initiatives.
She noted that the initiative has become an effective mechanism for encouraging innovation and empowering youth, women and the private sector, in line with the ministry’s 2026–2030 strategy, which prioritizes smart environmental governance, digital transformation, sustainable resource management and the growth of local green economies.
The minister also instructed governorates to coordinate closely with designated ministry contact points to ensure effective implementation and monitoring of submitted projects.
A nationwide awareness campaign is set to be launched through official governorate platforms, in cooperation with universities, the National Council for Women (NCW) and private sector partners, aiming to boost public engagement and encourage the submission of innovative proposals.
