Egypt expressed its sincere condolences and sympathy to Brazil over victims of the floods, which struck several northeastern cities, leaving dozens of people killed and missing.
In a statement on Wednesday, the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs extended condolences to the families of the victims, wishing speedy recovery of the injured.
It also expressed Egypt's full solidarity with Brazil in its ongoing efforts to search for the missing people as a result of this painful affliction.
It is worth mentioning that, Brazil’s government said on Tuesday that at least 106 people died and 10 others are missing by torrential rains in northeastern the country.
During an interview with local media, Paulo Câmara, the Governor of Pernambuco said that the government’s priority is to find the missing people amid mudslides and massive flooding.
Brazil’s President Jair Bolsonaro visited the state yesterday, Tuesday, and inspected the areas affected by the floods, and promised to send aid to the affected families.
It is the fourth major flood to hit the country in five months, highlighting poor planning in low-income neighborhoods, in most parts of the country, where shantytowns are built on collapsing hillsides.
In late December and early January, dozens were killed and thousands displaced when torrential rains fell in Bahia state, in northeastern Brazil.
