Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Immigration and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty on Tuesday held talks with Terje Pilskog, Chief Executive Officer of Norwegian renewable energy company Scatec, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen economic cooperation between Egypt and Norway, particularly in the field of renewable energy.

During the meeting, Abdelatty stressed the importance of building on the outcomes of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to Norway in December 2024, underscoring the need to further enhance bilateral economic cooperation. He highlighted the Egyptian government’s strong focus on empowering the private sector, attracting more foreign direct investment, and supporting foreign companies operating in the Egyptian market.

The foreign minister also reviewed Egypt’s efforts to promote a green economy and its ongoing plans to position the country as a global hub for green hydrogen production. In this context, he noted that Scatec’s projects are fully aligned with Egypt’s national strategy for sustainable development and clean energy expansion.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for Scatec’s projects in the country, describing them as a key contributor to strengthening economic and investment ties between Cairo and Oslo. He pointed to the latest of these projects, the Obelisk solar power plant in the city of Nagaa Hammadi in Qena governorate, where Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly attended the inauguration of the project’s first phase on Monday.

The minister emphasized the importance of expanding Scatec’s investment footprint in Egypt and moving forward with plans to export clean electricity to Europe. He also called for exploring opportunities for trilateral cooperation in Africa to implement development projects, particularly in the renewable energy sector.
