Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Expatriate Affairs, met today, Saturday, with H.E. Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, on the sidelines of the G20 meetings.
The meeting focused on means to enhance bilateral relations and discuss key regional issues in the African continent.
Abdelatty began the meeting by expressing Egypt's pride in its distinguished relations with Nigeria, noting that his visit to Abuja in July 2025 marked a significant turning point in the bilateral relations and contributed to important outcomes.
He looked forward to holding the next round of the Political Consultation Mechanism between the two countries in Abuja next year.
Moreover, he stressed the importance of bolstering security and military cooperation in light of the threats facing the continent, affirming Egypt's readiness to transfer its counter-terrorism expertise through intensifying training courses for Nigerian military and security personnel and supporting the comprehensive approach that includes intellectual aspects via Al-Azhar Al-Sharif’s efforts.
In a related context, Abdelatty underscored the importance of boosting Egyptian and Nigerian investments in the sectors of agriculture, medicine, energy, construction, and information technology.
He highlighted the need to continue following up on the outcomes of the Egyptian-Nigerian Business Forum held in Abuja last July to enhance trade exchange and serve the interests of the two sisterly countries.
The meeting also addressed opportunities to strengthen agricultural cooperation through the Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) signed between Egyptian and Nigerian companies recently, in addition to commending the growing cooperation in the oil, gas, and mining sectors.
The two ministers exchanged views on the developments in the Middle East.
FM emphasized the importance of implementing the Sharm El Sheikh Agreement, initiating early recovery and reconstruction steps, and ensuring the access of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
He stressed the need for concerted international efforts to ensure the implementation of the UN Security Council resolution on Gaza and the speedy formation of the International Stability Force in Gaza to carry out its responsibilities and tasks. He reviewed the arrangements for Egypt hosting the International Conference for Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza.
Regarding Sudan, FM stressed the importance of a ceasefire and creating the conditions for launching a comprehensive political process that preserves Sudan's unity, sovereignty, and stability.
He referred to the results of his recent visit to Khartoum on November 11th, calling for concerted regional and international efforts to support the Sudanese people and its national institutions.
The two ministers agreed to continue coordination and consultation in the bilateral and multilateral frameworks to achieve their common interests.
