The Libyan Minister of Industry and Minerals, Ahmed Abu Hessa, met today with the Turkish Ambassador to Libya, Güven Beğiş, at the ministry’s headquarters to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral relations in industrial and investment sectors.
During the meeting, Minister Abu Hessa outlined key investment opportunities available to Turkish partners. He highlighted the potential for investment in companies such as the Tajoura Industrial Complex, particularly in the truck and bus manufacturing sector. Additionally, he emphasized utilizing products from local firms like iron and steel and leveraging Libya’s natural resources for mining projects.
The Minister underscored the importance of enhancing industrial zones, promoting cluster assembly industries, and initiating model projects such as a technology hub and support programs for startups, taking inspiration from Turkey’s advanced experience.
He noted Libya’s strategic geographic position and abundant natural resources, positioning the country as a gateway to African markets heavily reliant on industrial imports. Libya, he added, serves as a promising hub for diverse industries and a link between North African coastal nations, Sub-Saharan Africa, and international markets, making it an ideal partner for regional and global investments.
The Minister stressed the availability of legal frameworks for investment, an expansive industrial infrastructure, and untouched industrial zones distributed across Libya, creating an appealing environment for foreign investors. He emphasized the need for joint ventures and advanced, sustainable technology to fully capitalize on these opportunities. He added that the Ministry of Industry and Minerals serves as the legal and legislative umbrella for the public and private industrial sectors and is the primary contact for foreign investors.
Turkish Ambassador Güven Beğiş expressed gratitude for the detailed proposals and reaffirmed Turkey's commitment to enhancing industrial cooperation with Libya. He noted that Turkish companies are prepared to provide the necessary technical and technological support and are eager to organize field visits to Libya to explore industrial investment needs and establish new development projects. He also expressed interest in signing bilateral agreements to strengthen industrial ties.
The meeting was attended by the Minister’s Office Director and the Acting Director of the Industrial Studies and Research Department. Both officials highlighted the meeting's importance in bolstering industrial cooperation between Libya and Turkey and advancing proposed initiatives.
This discussion aligns with the Ministry of Industry and Minerals' ongoing efforts to attract international partnerships and investments, contributing to Libya’s economic and industrial sustainability.
