Egypt and Morocco on Monday signed an executive program for cultural cooperation covering the period 2026–2030, marking a new step toward strengthening cultural ties and expanding collaboration in heritage, arts, and creative industries between the two countries.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the first session of the Egyptian–Moroccan Coordination and Follow-up Committee held in Cairo, chaired by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Moroccan Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch. Egypt’s Minister of Culture, Dr. Jehan Zaki, and Morocco’s Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, signed both a memorandum of understanding and the executive program.
The initiative aims to support joint cultural, artistic, and heritage projects, encourage exchanges of visits and participation in cultural events, and reflect the deep historical and human ties between the two nations.
The program places special emphasis on safeguarding both tangible and intangible cultural heritage through cooperation in restoration, digitization, and training, as well as joint efforts to prepare heritage nominations for UNESCO World Heritage listing and combat illicit trafficking in cultural property.
Zaki said the program represents “an important step toward deepening cultural cooperation and opening new horizons for integration and the exchange of knowledge and expertise,” contributing to sustainable cultural development and strengthening national identity.
The ministers also discussed cooperation in creative industries, cinema, and balanced investment in heritage sites to ensure their preservation and optimal use.
