Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, Dr. Hani Swailem, confirmed that climate change affects water in Egypt, adding that 97% of Egypt's water comes from rain that falls on the Nile Basin.
Dr. Swailem said, during a telephone conversation with the "MBC Egypt" satellite channel, for the "Al-Hekaya" program, with the media anchor, Amr Adib, this evening, Monday, that the Ministry of Irrigation is concerned with the effects of climate change, noting that the ministry is interested in the forecasting center that determines the movement and quantities of rain that fall into the Nile Basin.
On the other hand, the Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation revealed the reality of the threat to flood Alexandria, stressing that the matter is real, but the Egyptian state is investing and implementing many projects in order to work to protect the Egyptian beaches and the city.
He added that the rise in sea level affects the Egyptian shores and the state is working to implement protection works on the entire Egyptian shores, explaining that the rising sea level in the north of the delta threatens the delta in general, especially Alexandria.
