Egypt's Labor Day is observed on May 1st every year. It aims to commemorate the achievements of the labor movement.
The Egyptian government declared Thursday an official holiday instead of Monday, May 1, in celebration of Labor Day.
According to Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Thursday, May 4, will be an official paid holiday for workers in ministries, government agencies, public authorities, local administration units, public sector companies, public business sector companies, and the private sector, instead of Monday corresponding to May 1, 2023.
Labor Day is a public holiday in the country. It is a day off for governmental institutions, and schools and most businesses are closed.
To mark the day, there are numerous events and activities organized in major cities. Moreover, the President of Egypt traditionally presides over the official May Day celebrations.
