Egypt has achieved a notable milestone in job creation and economic development, recording a 24-point increase in the United Nations Employment Index over the past decade.

According to the "Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN)" , Egypt’s score rose from 50 points in 2014 to 74 points in 2024, reflecting substantial progress in providing decent work opportunities and improving the labor market environment.

The UN Employment Index is a key sub-indicator of Sustainable Development Goal 8, which focuses on decent work and economic growth. It measures a country’s ability to offer suitable employment for its working-age population while enhancing the overall quality of employment and productivity.

Officials attribute Egypt’s success to its comprehensive national development strategy, which includes major infrastructure projects, initiatives to attract domestic and foreign investment, and the creation of an enabling economic environment. These policies have generated millions of direct and indirect jobs, helping bring unemployment to its lowest level in 35 years.

“This achievement underscores Egypt’s commitment to sustainable economic growth and its focus on creating quality employment for its citizens,” government sources said.

Experts say the progress also signals that Egypt is on track to meet its 2030 SDGs, particularly in reducing unemployment, promoting inclusive economic growth, and ensuring long-term job sustainability.

“The rise in Egypt’s employment index demonstrates that strategic planning and investment can translate into tangible benefits for the workforce and overall economic resilience,” analysts noted.
