Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, held a phone call last night with Abdullah Diop, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Mali, to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries and efforts to combat terrorism in the region.
During the call, Abdelatty expressed Egypt's appreciation for the historic relations it shares with Mali, emphasizing Cairo's keenness to build on the positive momentum witnessed in bilateral relations in recent years, which contributes to elevating them to broader horizons.
For his part, Malian FM briefed Abdelatty on the latest developments in the security situation in Mali and the efforts being made by the Malian government to confront terrorism and extremism and restore security and stability in the country.
In the same context, Abdelatty stressed the necessity of working to provide the highest levels of protection and security for Egyptian citizens residing in Mali, affirming Egypt's continuous monitoring of the situation there and permanent coordination with the Malian authorities to ensure their safety.
Abdelatty also called upon his Malian counterpart to exert maximum efforts to secure the release of the three kidnapped Egyptians.
The Malian FM, in turn, confirmed that close follow-up is underway with the relevant ministries and agencies in Mali to clarify the matter and work for the swift release of the abductees.
Both ministers concluded the call by affirming the continuation of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the two countries in various fields, in a manner that supports security, stability, and development in Mali and the African continent.
Moreover, Malian FM emphasized his country's deep commitment to the brotherly relations with Egypt, appreciating the Egyptian concern for his country's security and stability, and noting their keenness to work on providing security and protection for Egyptian citizens present in Mali.
