Egyptian National Railways operated a special train service on Wednesday to transport hundreds of Sudanese families from Ramses Railway Station to Aswan as part of the ongoing “Voluntary Return” initiative facilitating the return of Sudanese nationals to their homeland.
The specially designated Train departed on the morning of May 13, carrying families traveling south toward the Sudanese border in coordination with Egyptian authorities and relevant agencies overseeing the humanitarian operation.
The initiative comes amid continuing efforts by Egypt to support Sudanese citizens affected by the prolonged crisis in Sudan, while also reflecting the longstanding political, cultural, and social ties between the two neighboring nations.
According to railway officials, the train is scheduled to arrive at High Dam Station at approximately 11:40 p.m. local time. The return service, Train No. 1945, is expected to depart from Aswan on Thursday morning at 11:30 a.m. to resume regular passenger operations.
Authorities said extensive logistical and service arrangements were put in place to ensure the comfort and safety of passengers throughout the journey. The transportation effort was carried out in line with directives from Egypt’s Ministry of Transport to provide full support for Sudanese families returning voluntarily to their country, particularly ahead of the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday season.
The latest transport operation underscores Egypt’s continued humanitarian coordination with Sudan during a period of regional instability, while highlighting the deep-rooted bonds that have historically linked the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples.
