Under the patronage of Dr. Manal Awad, Egypt’s Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment, the Ministry of Environment launched the country’s first national campaign for collecting and recycling used carton packages under the slogan “Dawwar El-‘Olba Tedourlak” (Recycle Your Carton, It Pays Back).

Since its launch in mid-2024, the initiative has achieved a significant environmental milestone by collecting around 4,000 tons of used carton packages for recycling into new paper-based products. The campaign, organized in cooperation with several private-sector companies, aims to promote public awareness and participation in waste separation and recycling efforts across Egypt.

The event was attended by Hoda El-Shawadfi, Assistant to the Minister; Eng. Yousra Abdel Aziz, Director of the Plastics and Carton Packaging Unit; Yasser Abdullah, Head of the Waste Management Regulatory Authority; and Dag Juhlin-Dannfelt, Ambassador of Sweden to Cairo, along with several representatives of the industrial sector.

Dr. Awad emphasized that the campaign marks “a real beginning of a national movement toward a more sustainable future,” calling on companies and citizens to take part in building a green, circular economy. She added that the ministry continues to strengthen partnerships between the public and private sectors to enhance Egypt’s waste management systems and support the goals of Egypt Vision 2030 for sustainable development.
