Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a meeting with Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly and Eng. Karim Badawi, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, to discuss several files related to the Ministry’s work, with a focus on developing Egypt’s mineral resources sector.

The official spokesperson for the Presidency stated that the meeting addressed the government’s efforts to implement a strategy to transform Egypt into a regional hub for energy, mining, and the trading of natural resources, including updates on seismic and aerial surveys, plans to expand onshore and offshore exploration of minerals and natural resources, diversifying supply sources, and offering incentives to attract investment in the mineral resources sector.

The spokesperson also noted that the meeting discussed coordination between the Ministries of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Electricity, and Renewable Energy to secure Egypt’s needs of gas and minerals, particularly in preparation for the summer of 2026. President El-Sisi also reviewed developments in the mining sector, geological reserves, and investment opportunities in this strategic field. Eng. Karim Badawi announced that Egypt will launch in the first quarter of this year the first comprehensive aerial survey of mineral resources in 40 years, aiming to update geological data and build a massive database to attract Arab and international mining investments.

Eng. Karim Badawi also presented a report on his participation in the fifth edition of the International Mining Conference in Riyadh, held from January 13 to 15, 2026. During the conference, he highlighted the comprehensive legislative reforms Egypt has implemented to attract investors and the adoption of globally competitive models for exploiting gold and various other minerals. The report also covered a new package of incentives for international exploration companies and the facilitation of licensing procedures, based on Egypt’s rich geological resources and integrated infrastructure.

President El-Sisi directed the government to continue fulfilling obligations to mining and gas companies operating in Egypt, ensuring the payment of dues to increase local production of minerals and natural resources, while providing incentives to accelerate the development of fields and new exploration activities. His Excellency stressed the importance of expanding exploration efforts, learning from successful experiences, and offering more incentives and facilitation measures to investors in the mining and mineral sectors, to boost investment, increase production, and meet the growing consumer and developmental needs.
