Egypt's Ministry of Agriculture has begun implementing a new initiative to expand retail outlets offering discounted consumer goods, as part of a government drive to ease living costs for citizens, the ministry's spokesperson Khaled Gad said.
In his remarks, Gad said the initiative, branded "Carry On," is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade and the Future of Egypt Authority, following presidential directives aimed at reducing the financial burden on households.
He said the Ministry of Agriculture has identified more than 900 potential locations for the project, with work underway to determine the most suitable sites for new outlets across the country.
Gad added that implementation had already begun through the upgrading of the ministry's existing network of 935 retail outlets, while preparations continue for the establishment of additional locations.
The new outlets will offer a range of consumer, food and subsidized goods, including meat, poultry, eggs, rice, sugar and agricultural products, alongside other commodities supplied through the Ministry of Supply.
According to Gad, products supplied by the Ministry of Agriculture will be sold at prices around 25% lower than prevailing market rates, while prices of other goods will be set under the supervision of the Ministry of Supply to ensure uniform pricing across all outlets.
