Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Saturday with Kenyan Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and coordinate positions on issues of mutual interest.

During the call, Abdelatty emphasized the depth of Egyptian-Kenyan relations, praising the positive momentum witnessed in ties between the two countries, reflected in recent high-level exchanges. He stressed the shared commitment to building on recent progress and expanding cooperation frameworks in a manner that serves the mutual interests of both nations.

The Egyptian foreign minister underlined the importance of enhancing economic, trade, and investment cooperation, highlighting Egypt’s aspiration for Kenya to benefit from the Nile Basin Projects Financing Mechanism launched by Cairo last year. He also called for boosting trade exchange, supporting mutual investments, and enabling Egyptian companies to capitalize on opportunities in the Kenyan market, particularly in infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and industry, as part of efforts to promote sustainable development and strengthen business-to-business partnerships.

Abdelatty further highlighted the importance of continued cooperation in capacity building through training programs offered by Egyptian national institutions, the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development, and the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding, noting their role in supporting national cadres and enhancing stability and security.

On regional and multilateral cooperation, the two ministers stressed the need to enhance coordination and consultation on regional and continental issues of shared concern. This includes preparations for the upcoming African Union Summit scheduled for mid-next month, as well as the forthcoming meeting of the Steering Committee of the African Union Development Agency (NEPAD), currently chaired by Egypt. Both sides agreed to continue close coordination to advance shared interests and support efforts aimed at promoting stability, peace, security, and development across Africa.
