Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met on Thursday with Nobumitsu Hayashi, Governor of the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), on the sidelines of the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9), hosted in Yokohama.
The meeting was attended by Egypt’s Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, and Egypt’s Ambassador to Japan, Mohamed Abu Bakr. Madbouly is representing President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi at the high-level summit.
During the talks, the prime minister underlined the government’s commitment to boosting Egypt’s exports in the coming period, highlighting the country’s efforts to open new opportunities for trade and investment.
Minister Al-Mashat outlined Egypt’s successful economic reform program, which has delivered positive indicators in recent years. She emphasized the government’s strategy to strengthen the role of the private sector in driving economic growth, while also exploring deeper cooperation with JBIC across multiple sectors.
Hayashi welcomed Egypt’s economic progress, noting the improved stability in recent years. He expressed agreement with the need for greater Japanese business presence in the Egyptian market and said he had already shared this perspective with several Japanese companies.
He also pointed to the advantages of investing in the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone) particularly in renewable energy, adding that he regularly communicates these opportunities to Japanese firms looking to expand into Africa and the Middle East.
The discussions reflect growing momentum in Egypt-Japan relations, with both sides expressing a shared commitment to expanding trade, investment, and development cooperation.
