Prime Minister (PM) Dr. Moustafa Madbouly met this morning with his Japanese counterpart Sanae Takaichi.
This came on the sidelines of PM's participation, on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, in the 2025 G20 Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa.
At the start of the meeting, Madbouly valued the historical relations between Egypt and Japan, which span over 70 years and were elevated to the level of a "Strategic Partnership" in April 2023.
He stressed the importance of cooperation in various fields and congratulated Sanae Takaichi on her official election and appointment as Japan's Prime Minister last October, as the first woman to hold this high office.
PM also expressed deep appreciation for Japan's contribution to many important national and developmental projects, particularly the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) and the Egyptian-Japanese Partnership in the field of education.
Moreover, Madbouly affirmed the aspiration to expand cooperation between the two countries to include advanced technological industries, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its governance aspects, and to open new and broader areas for economic cooperation with Japan, in light of the shared vision on several issues, most notably climate change.
This includes trilateral cooperation between JICA, the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD), and African countries, as well as supporting the existing cooperation with Japan in the framework of peacekeeping and peace-building.
For her part, Takaichi, expressed her appreciation for the historical relations between the two countries, valuing the cooperation in various fields.
Furthermore, Takaichi affirmed her aspiration to expand cooperation frameworks with Egypt across various sectors, building on the agreements reached during recent high-level Japanese officials' visits to Egypt, as well as Dr. Mostafa Madbouly’s recent visit to Japan.
