Egypt’s Foreign Minister and Minister of Emigration and Expatriates’ Affairs Dr. Badr Abdelatty held a phone call on Wednesday, with Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani to discuss ways to advance bilateral relations as well as developments in Gaza and Sudan.
Ambassador Tamim Khalaf, spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said the two ministers praised the strong and longstanding ties between Egypt and Italy, affirming their shared commitment to strengthening all aspects of cooperation and elevating relations to new levels.
According to the spokesperson, Abdelatty underscored Egypt’s interest in deepening economic and investment cooperation with Italy and expanding bilateral trade. He also highlighted Egypt’s readiness to enhance collaboration in energy, renewable energy and natural gas, citing the country’s significant natural resources and robust infrastructure.
Abdelatty stressed the importance of convening the Egypt–Italy Joint Committee at the earliest opportunity under the co-chairmanship of the two foreign ministers.
The call also addressed the situation in the Gaza Strip. Both sides emphasized the need to fully implement the UN Security Council resolution on Gaza and enable the International Stabilization Force to carry out its mandate, contributing to sustaining the ceasefire and ensuring the security of the Palestinian people in the Strip. Abdelatty also reviewed Egypt’s ongoing efforts to uphold the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Agreement and implement all its provisions, including political, humanitarian and development components.
On Sudan, the ministers exchanged assessments regarding the latest developments. Abdelatty reiterated Egypt’s firm position in support of Sudan’s unity, territorial integrity and the preservation of its national institutions. He expressed Egypt’s complete rejection of any attempts to divide the country or undermine its stability, renewing his condemnation of the atrocities committed in El-Fasher.
He stressed the urgent need for intensified international efforts to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire, create conditions for launching a political process, and establish an unhindered humanitarian pathway to deliver aid to civilians.
