The Egyptian Finance Ministry has announced issuing a commemorative coin to mark the reopening of the Alexandria Greco-Roman Museum.

This came after Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly authorized the Minister of Finance to issue commemorative silver coins of 100 pounds denomination that are not meant for circulation.

The new 100 Egyptian pound coin has the name and logo of the Greco-Roman Museum on it in Arabic and English to mark the event, according to the official Gazette.

The museum, which consists of 27 halls and an attractive garden, has been renovated by the Supreme Council of Antiquities. The renovation work included completing the various engineering works, and the preparation for the museum’s display scenario.

Established in 1892, the Alexandria Greco-Roman Museum was first housed in a five-room apartment on Rosetta Street (now Horriya), then moved to a larger building near Gamal Abdul Nasser Street.

The museum features valuable artifacts from Egypt's Greco-Roman period, including a black granite sculpture of Apis, the sacred bull of the Egyptians, mummies, sarcophagi, tapestries, and other objects.
