In a move signaling a deepening of diplomatic and social ties, Egypt unveiled a new long-term visa program exclusively for Algerian nationals, granting unprecedented travel flexibility and extended stay privileges between the two countries.
The announcement, made by Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and communicated through the Egyptian Embassy in Algiers, introduces a “long-term entry visa” valid for five consecutive years. The initiative is widely seen as part of broader efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation and facilitate people-to-people exchange between Egypt and Algeria.
Under the new system, Algerian citizens will be able to enter and exit Egypt multiple times over the five-year validity period without restrictions on the number of entries. Each visit can last up to 180 days, offering travelers significant flexibility for tourism, business, and extended family stays.
Officials described the visa as a “multi-entry, long-duration permit” designed to reduce administrative burdens and encourage sustained engagement between the populations of both nations.
“This measure reflects the depth of strategic relations between Cairo and Algiers,” the embassy said in a statement, emphasizing the historic ties and shared regional interests that underpin the decision.
Applicants seeking the new visa are advised to visit the Egyptian diplomatic mission in Algeria to review required documentation and complete the application process. Authorities also confirmed that inquiries can be handled through official digital platforms and communication channels, aiming to simplify access to the program.
While specific eligibility criteria have not been fully detailed publicly, officials indicated that the process would prioritize efficiency and accessibility, aligning with Egypt’s broader push to modernize its consular services.
The introduction of the five-year visa comes amid growing economic and political coordination between Egypt and Algeria, particularly in areas such as energy, trade, and regional security. Analysts suggest the policy could boost tourism flows, expand business opportunities, and foster closer cultural connections.
By easing mobility restrictions, Cairo is positioning itself as an increasingly accessible destination for North African travelers, while reinforcing its role as a regional hub for commerce and diplomacy.
As both nations continue to pursue closer integration, the long-term visa initiative may serve as a model for similar agreements across the region, marking a notable shift toward more open and cooperative travel policies in North Africa.
