Egypt Increases Amount of Electricity from Renewable Energy by 17.2%

Today, Saturday, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics issued a press statement on the occasion of "World Environment Day 2022".

Among the most important of these indicators, the amount of electrical energy generated in Egypt from renewable energy sources (wind/solar energy) increased from 8.7 billion kilowatt-hours in (2019/2020) to 10.2 billion kilowatt-hours in (2020/2021), with an increase of 17.2%.

It should be noted that Egypt possesses the largest electrical capacities from wind and solar energy in the Middle East and North Africa.

The number of cars run by natural gas in Egypt increased from 42,292 cars during (2019/2020) to 51,000 cars during (2020/2021), with an increase in The number of car refueling stations with natural gas reached 530 stations by the end of 2021.

Egypt advanced in the Climate Change Performance Index (CCPI) in 2022, as it ranked (21) among the 64 countries included in the index (its total emissions represent more than 90% of the world's total emissions).
