The Industrial Modernization Center (IMC) revealed that the National Project for Solar Cell Systems (Egypt-PV) installed 121 solar power stations in 15 governorates with a total capacity of 9.6 megawatts, and a total energy saving of 14.8 megawatts.
This came during a virtual meeting on Wednesday with Egypt-PV, headed IMC Executive Director Mohamed Abdel Karim.
The center explained that the project has trained 215 engineers in installing, operating and maintaining solar systems. Also, 50 companies have been accepted to join the indicative list of companies working in the field of solar energy that are qualified by the New and Renewable Energy Authority.
It emphasized the project won the London Energy Institute award as the best global project in reducing greenhouse gases for 2020.
The project was implemented in partnership with the United Nations Development Program with funding from the Global Environment Facility, and it aims to develop the spread of its installation in factories, hotels, public, commercial and residential facilities. It also aims to establish centers, which will provide technical support and consultations to increase the percentage of the local component in projects.
The project will boost the use of clean and renewable energy in emerging markets, as well as create new job opportunities and remove obstacles to increase energy production by small decentralized solar cells connected to the grid.
