Egypt hosted a ministerial meeting on Tuesday bringing together the foreign ministers of Algeria and Tunisia as part of the Libya Neighbours Mechanism, amid renewed regional efforts to support a political resolution to the Libyan crisis.

The talks, held in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, focused on coordinating regional positions and reviewing the latest political and security developments in Libya.

The trilateral mechanism is aimed at strengthening consultation and coordination among Libya’s neighbouring countries in support of a comprehensive political settlement that responds to the aspirations of the Libyan people.

Discussions also addressed ways to enhance engagement with Libyan parties and encourage broader participation in the political process, while maintaining support for United Nations-led mediation efforts.

A joint statement was expected following the meeting outlining the shared position of the three countries on recent developments in Libya, according to officials familiar with the discussions.

Egypt has repeatedly stressed that preserving Libya’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity remains a central pillar of its policy toward the conflict, viewing stability in Libya as closely tied to Egyptian and broader Arab national security.

Cairo has also continued to advocate for the unification of Libyan institutions, the withdrawal of foreign forces from Libyan territory and the formation of a unified government capable of leading the country toward presidential and parliamentary elections.

The meeting comes as diplomatic efforts intensify to break the prolonged political deadlock in Libya and prevent further instability in the region.
