Egypt’s cabinet Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC) highlighted the role of the National Nutrition Institute (NNI) in promoting healthy lifestyles and preventive healthcare, affirming the importance of balanced diets, exercise and adequate water intake.
In a statement, the IDSC reviewed the institute’s efforts in food analysis, therapeutic nutrition and public awareness campaigns aimed at encouraging healthier eating habits and reducing diseases linked to poor nutrition.
Ola Shawky Ahmed, director of the National Nutrition Institute, said balanced nutrition was the foundation of disease prevention and good health, stressing that dietary plans should be tailored to individual health conditions and followed under medical supervision.
She said the institute operates specialised clinics serving different age groups and medical conditions, including diabetes, liver disease, cancer, breastfeeding and stunting cases.
Ahmed added that the institute also runs advanced laboratories that analyse food products and nutritional components, including proteins, fats, Omega-3, Omega-6 and trans fats, in addition to reviewing nutritional supplements before they are approved for market circulation.
The statement quoted Ahmed as urging people to follow healthier lifestyles by exercising regularly, sleeping adequately and drinking enough water, recommending at least 30 minutes of daily exercise and around two litres of water per day in most cases.
She warned against applying the same diet to all individuals, noting that nutritional needs differ according to age, gender and health condition.
The statement also stressed the importance of family meals and regular eating schedules as part of efforts to revive healthier dietary habits within Egyptian society.
