Egypt, Greece to Maximize Benefits of Natural Gas Discoveries

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and his Greek counterpart Nikos Dendias asserted Tuesday the importance of maximizing the benefits of recent natural gas discoveries in the Eastern Mediterranean.

During holding an expanded session in Athens, Shoukry and Dendias discussed means of bolstering bilateral ties and exploring new horizons for cooperation as well as coordination in fighting terrorism, according to Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Hafez.

Shourky handed over a message to Dendias from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, congratulating the Greek minister on assuming his post in the newly-formed government under Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

"Cairo is looking forward to furthering cooperation with Athens at all levels," Shoukry said.

He also hailed the recent boom in the strategic partnership between both countries, inviting Dendias to visit Egypt as soon as possible.

Dendias stressed the robust ties between Egypt and Greece, applauding the strategic partnership between both countries based on mutual understanding and common interests.

Briefing Dendias on Cairo's stance on several regional issues, Shoukry said that Egypt is looking forward to hosting the 7th Cyprus-Egypt Greece Trilateral Summit.

During the meeting, the two sides have also exchanged views on multiple regional and international issues of mutual concern.
