Regional developments were also high on the agenda, with Abdelatty outlining Egypt’s ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation and regional stability. He reiterated Cairo’s support for the ongoing US-Iran negotiations, while Gerapetritis expressed Greece’s appreciation for Egypt’s active role in promoting dialogue and reducing tensions across the region.
The ministers also reviewed the latest developments in the Palestinian issue. Abdelatty stressed the importance of implementing the commitments of the first phase of the US-backed peace framework and advancing to the second phase.
He also underscored the need for the national committee responsible for administering Gaza to begin operating from within the territory and called for the rapid deployment of an international stabilization force.
On Libya, Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s long-standing position supporting the country’s unity, sovereignty and stability.
He emphasized the need to unify Libya’s institutions and advance a comprehensive Libyan-led political solution that reflects the aspirations of the Libyan people. He also highlighted the importance of accelerating efforts toward holding simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections as soon as possible.
